  • Scientific Steering Group

  • CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel

Monsoons are a global phenomenon and overall progress in our scientific understanding of monsoons will benefit by the interaction of individuals and groups that study these various regions. Furthermore, the efforts of the Global Water and Energy Exchanges (GEWEX) project are highly relevant to the terrestrial and hydro-thermodynamic aspects of monsoons.

The CLIVAR/IOC-GOOS Indian Ocean Region Panel provides scientific and technical oversight for implementation of the sustained ocean observing system for the Indian Ocean and coordinates research on the role of the Indian Ocean on the climate system.

The responsibilities of ICMPO include support to CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel and CLIVAR/IOC-GOOS Indian Ocean Region Panel by planning and coordinating meetings, arranging the teleconferences for the Panel Members. The working groups of Monsoons Panel include Asian-Australian Monsoons, African Monsoons and the American Monsoons.

Other activities of ICMPO include Production of CLIVAR Exchanges Newsletters, Development and maintainence of Monsoon Panel Web Pages at CLIVAR Website which catalogues current monsoon research initiatives, information and resource relevant for the international monsoon community. This office also dissiminates the latest CLIVAR information to Indian Meteorological and Oceanographic Community.
